Larking Gowen and Macmillan take a look back at what they have achieved through the Larking Gowen Half Marathon series

Larking Gowen’s sponsorship of the City of Norwich Half Marathon and the Ipswich Half Marathon has led to a collaboration between the East Anglian accountancy firm and Macmillan cancer research.  Macmillan has been the official charity partner at these events since 2010 and Helen Glenholmes, Macmillan fundraising manager for East Suffolk and Waveney, is looking back at their achievements.

“We’ve had an incredible year working on the Woolverstone Macmillan Centre at Ipswich Hospital and we are over half way towards our £3.7 million target!” says Helen.

“This is an unbelievable achievement, as all the donations have been made by local people, and Macmillan doesn’t receive any funding from the government. Thank you to Larking Gowen, for the part that you’ve played in supporting this wonderful centre and helping us to spread the word of this ongoing appeal.”

Macmillan volunteers worked alongside Larking Gowen staff, who gave up their time to help, both leading up to the event and on race day.  They took part in a wide variety of tasks from manning the water stations along the race route and working as race marshals, to making up the goody bags and handing out the finishing medals.

Continues Helen, “Seeing patients using the new treatment facilities, with their family and friends, has made every minute, mile, and cake sale worthwhile.”

Sharyn Scott, Larking Gowen Business Development Manager, adds, “We are very proud to work alongside Macmillan and fundraise for local cancer services.  So much has been accomplished in our own community this year, and it’s great to know that patients will benefit from the new centre.”
