Our History

Our story began in 1888, when Charles Larking bought a small Norwich accountancy practice. His sons joined as partners and the firm became Larking & Larking.

In 1969, Larking & Larking merged with Harman & Gowen, another well-established Norfolk accountant that had been founded in 1906. The newly formed Larking & Gowen quickly grew, setting up several specialist departments and establishing nine offices throughout East Anglia.

In 2010 Larking Gowen joined MHA, a national accountancy association. The association brings together like-minded accountancy firms covering the UK, to share best practice, knowledge and skills. Through MHA we also have membership of an international network of accountancy firms called Baker Tilly International.

On 9 April 2019 Larking Gowen, alongside the other MHA member firms across the UK, added MHA as a prefix to their existing name and aligned with the global Baker Tilly International branding.

Today, we're a major independent partnership of accountants and tax advisors and one of the UK’s top 40 accountancy firms.
